Omega 3 – Fish or Supplements

Where can Omega 3 be found?

In my research, one of the many suggestions I found to help with inflammation was fish. Particularly, those rich in Omega 3 fatty acids. Such as mackerel, salmon, tuna, halibut, herring, and cod. I do believe most of these kinds of fish are cold-water fish. And I have read wild fish, and not farm-raised fish are best for Omega 3 fatty acids.
But what if you don’t like fish?? That is the case for me. When I was younger, I did. I loved tuna and halibut. But, as an adult, do not care for fish at all.  So, what about supplements??

Supplements

Supplements to the rescue. And most are cheaper than any prescription I’ve ever gotten from a doctor to help with my psoriatic arthritis inflammation.

I take fish oil supplements daily. It is packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which the body then converts into anti-inflammatory chemicals. If I can reduce the inflammation that is going on in my body, I can reduce the pain as well. Less inflammation equals less pain. And all from taking a fish oil supplement daily!

OMEGA 3 – FISH OR SUPPLEMENTS

Not Just Psoriatic Arthritis

Fish oil has been known to help with other health issues such as: possibly

  • Blood pressure
  • Cholesterol
  • Blood clots
  • Supports eye health
  • Help fight autoimmune diseases
  • May help prevent cancer
  • Risk factors for heart disease
  • May reduce liver fat
  • Bone health

I could go on and on with this list. Fish oil may and in some cases, can help with many other health issues. The list is truly tremendous.

The Bottom Line

The fact is fish oil helps me with my inflammation. Did it cure me?  No, we all know that right now, there is no cure for Psoriatic Arthritis. But it has helped me to take back some control over my health. Maybe it could help you as well. Do keep in mind, just like prescribed drugs, as well as those of us dealing with PsA, what may work for me, may not work for you.  Finding out what works for you is what matters most.

The tremendous amount of research I have done was weeding through what worked for me and what didn’t work for me. My doctors in the past had to do the very same thing with prescription drugs. I’m sure many of you know what I am talking about. All the scripts written, and then filled–at my cost, only to take, and wind up not working. Even in some cases, the side effects made me feel even worse!

  1. I love fish and eat a lot of it as part of my low carb lifestyle. However, I also take a krill oil. Fish oil has many benefits. It is great for your joints, brain and heart. Many people believe fish oil helps to fight cancer as well.

  2. Hi Laura! I enjoyed reading your post about fish oils. Did you know that in Norway we start as soon as we can to give it to our babies at a very young age for brain development among other things? Yes we do! Anyway I think it is important for everyone to have omega 3. I like your site and the focus it has. We need to share this! 🙂 Good luck with it all and thank you
